Shanghai Festivals & Events: What Is Announced

Dates establish the published event period, not ticket availability or a guarantee that every scheduled performance will take place. Choose an event for its actual programme, then build accommodation and transport around the correct venue.

Arts Festival: Choose a Production

The 25th festival’s municipal portal lists a 17 October–15 November period and a mix of international performances and public-space programming. This gives several ways to participate, but the citywide scale makes venue selection important. A public-space programme and a reserved theatre seat follow different access arrangements.

The same official portal includes a separate November 5–7 run of Authentic by Poland’s JK Opole Theatre at Theatre Young, described as part of the 2026 Autumn IS International Theatre Festival. It is a specific theatre example, not proof that every November event belongs to the same festival. Check the production page and ticket channel for the exact date.

The Phantom of the Opera at Shanghai Grand Theatre

The municipal October notice announces a 104-performance Shanghai run through 27 December 2026. For a visitor, the useful questions are the chosen date, language, seat view, interval and expected finish. The production’s broad run does not establish a seat for your travel dates.

Shanghai Grand Theatre is near People’s Square. Do not confuse it with Shangyin Opera House or Shanghai Grand Opera House when booking transport. Pair the evening with a central day and a nearby meal rather than adding a distant excursion that might delay arrival.

Short-Track Skating in Pudong

The 23 October municipal announcement places the Shanghai leg of the 2026–27 ISU Short Track World Tour at the Oriental Sports Center from 27 to 29 November. It distinguishes preliminary rounds on the 27th from the following weekend’s programme. Choose the session that fits your interest rather than treating a three-day event as one continuous ticket.

At the check date, the notice names Damai, Juss Sports, Trip.com and Maiseat as planned ticket channels but says sale dates will be announced later. This guide therefore does not claim tickets are on sale. Confirm the final session and entry conditions before making non-refundable travel commitments.

Seasonal Traditions and Past Photographs

Yuyuan lantern displays are associated with the Lunar New Year season, while tourism, blossom and food programmes occur in different parts of the year. Their dates, ticketing zones and operating hours need the specific edition’s announcement. An older lantern photograph or a spring park timetable does not establish a 2027 schedule.

The official September 2026 October calendar also names sports and cultural events that may already be over by your visit. Use such lists as dated research leads, not as an evergreen promise that a tournament runs throughout the month.

Accommodation, Access and the Return

Check the venue address before choosing a hotel, especially for events in Pudong or outer districts. A central hotel can work well for a theatre night, while a late finish at a distant sports venue needs a different return plan. Major events may add pressure to local transport and accommodation without making every city hotel equally convenient.
