Amstel River: Photo & Viewpoint

The broader water of the Amstel gives more separation between buildings than a narrow canal. Look for a bridge line or a reflection that connects the foreground with the opposite bank.
Frame the Amstel and bridge
Use the broad water as a foreground and keep the bridge or opposite quay as a clear horizontal line. A passing boat can show scale, but leave room in front of it rather than placing it at the edge of the frame. Try a second composition without the boat so the river and architecture remain the subject.
Use a public riverside position and leave room for people passing. Wind and boats change the surface, so a reflection in this image should not be treated as a fixed feature. Combine the view with a short river walk rather than a rushed detour.
