Vietnam Festivals & Events: Tet, Cultural Seasons and Planning

Plan around Vietnam public holidays, Tet and regional events with verified 2027 holiday references and clearly distinguished festival programmes.
Separate a festival date from a holiday season
Vietnam's event calendar combines public holidays, lunar-calendar traditions, city programmes and individual performances. These are not interchangeable. A national day off does not mean every restaurant closes, while a festival season does not mean its main show runs every night. Choose the event you want to experience, then establish the actual date, venue, ticket status and travel implications.
Information below was checked on 27 October 2026. The 2027 holiday references come from a published government announcement; the cultural examples need their own current organiser programme. This guide does not turn a past year's event dates into future bookings. Use Nightlife & Evening Culture for regular performances and ordinary evenings rather than an annual festival.
2027 public-holiday planning references
The Government News announcement dated 12 October 2026 sets out the holiday periods. The public-sector Tet break is listed as 4–10 February 2027; private-sector arrangements can differ. The same source identifies 1–3 January, 16–18 April, 30 April–3 May and 2–5 September as relevant multi-day breaks. These are planning references for demand and services, not a uniform opening calendar for every business.

|---|---|---|
| New Year | 1–3 January 2027 | Confirm any special evening and the following departure |
| Tet public-sector break | 4–10 February 2027 | Check each provider; private-sector arrangements can differ |
| Hung Kings commemoration break | 16–18 April 2027 | Reconfirm the particular outing and travel availability |
| Reunification / labour holiday break | 30 April–3 May 2027 | Price and reserve the actual connection you need |

Check your specific airline, train, hotel and excursion arrangements instead of inferring their operating hours from a national holiday label. A holiday can affect prices or availability before and after the formal break as travellers move between work and family homes. No single nationwide surcharge or closure list applies to every supplier.
Tet: enjoy the preparations and simplify the route
Tet is a family holiday as well as a visually memorable season. The official Tet introduction provides the cultural context of preparation, reunion and food. Travellers may find seasonal markets and decorations especially interesting, but these are working places and family occasions rather than sets arranged for visitors.
Choose one base for the central holiday period when possible. Reconfirm arrival, meals, laundry or other services essential to your stay. If a small business says it will be closed, identify an alternative rather than assuming a platform's ordinary hours override the owner's holiday arrangements. Save contacts and booking references offline before travelling between bases.
A route with fewer transfers can be easier to enjoy than one depending on several separate providers operating to their normal timetable. Reserve the critical journey first and read its change conditions. A ticket on sale does not remove the need for a practical pickup or station transfer. Keep the international departure buffer even when the holiday has officially ended.
Nguyen Hue and city flower displays
A flower-street visit can be a distinct seasonal experience in Ho Chi Minh City. Establish the programme and access for the year you will visit, rather than relying on a photograph from another Tet. Crowds, barriers and pedestrian arrangements can change how you approach the area. Give a driver a meeting point outside any restricted street and choose a visit length that suits your group.
The photograph on this page is historical context, not a view of the next event or a promise of the same design. Decorations are renewed and public access can differ. Ask permission for close portraits of families and vendors, and avoid blocking a working stall or performance space for a photograph. A seasonal outing works well as one main evening or morning interest rather than a stop squeezed between unrelated bookings.
Mid-Autumn: a cultural theme, not a fixed Gregorian date
Mid-Autumn celebrations follow the lunar calendar, so a month or date from an old article should not be carried forward automatically. Look for the actual year's local programme and distinguish a public display, a school or community celebration, a market and a ticketed performance. They have different access and photography expectations.
For families, choose the location and crowd level as carefully as the visual appeal. Decide on a meeting point, an easy exit and what happens if a child needs to leave early. A lantern workshop can be a separate daytime activity without requiring attendance at a crowded festival. The family guide helps choose an appropriate format rather than assuming every festive setting suits every age.
Hue Festival: read the season and programme year
Hue's festival framework includes activities across seasons rather than only one annual evening. The local government's 2026 announcement describes that framework. It places the 2026 international arts week in June and identifies a winter programme with a New Year countdown. The June programme is a past event as of this guide's October 2026 check; it is not a 2027 date.
Choose a particular performance or activity from the current published programme. Confirm whether it requires a ticket, what the named venue is and whether seating is allocated. A general festival logo on a hotel advertisement does not establish admission. Leave enough time for the return from an outdoor event or a riverside setting before an early departure next morning.
If planning far ahead, it is reasonable to choose Hue for its ordinary heritage and food interests while leaving the festival booking until its programme is confirmed. That avoids making the entire trip depend on an unannounced performance. Keep the heritage plan useful even if the event you hoped for is not scheduled.
Da Nang fireworks: verify the actual edition
The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival organiser's site identifies its programme edition. Check the year shown before using any date. A 2026 schedule or ticket image cannot confirm a 2027 performance, and a proposed season is different from a final ticketed evening.
For a confirmed date, compare the official ticket, seating area, entry rules and the journey back to your accommodation. A river-facing room or restaurant table should not be sold to yourself as a guaranteed fireworks view without a specific written arrangement. Ask about the actual view, obstructions and any minimum spend. Arrange a clear meeting point if the normal pickup road becomes crowded or restricted.
Hoi An lantern evenings and special events
Hoi An's lantern-lit streets are an ordinary part of its visitor appeal as well as the setting for some special programmes. Establish whether you are planning a general old-town evening or a named event. Do not promise a monthly festival date solely from an image or a generic lunar-calendar statement. Use the current destination programme and the operating provider for any ticketed performance.
A market, a river activity, a stage show and a meal can each have separate payment and timing. Agree what is included before paying for a combined evening. If staying near the beach or outside the historic centre, make the return journey part of the plan instead of assuming every vehicle can collect you from the same street after dark.
Plan the event day in the right order
First establish the official event and date. Next check the accommodation and the critical transport, then choose the ticket or reservation whose conditions you accept. Read cancellation, rescheduling and weather information for the actual product. Keep a current contact and a way to receive a programme change. Avoid a same-day separate international flight after an event that depends on uncertain road access or a late finish.
For a free public event, ask about the actual access arrangement rather than assuming free means unregulated. For a ticketed performance, identify the authorised seller and the named venue. Crowd conditions, access needs and children's tolerance may favour a different seating area, an earlier visit or an alternative activity. A useful festival trip is built around a confirmed experience and a workable day, not just a colourful calendar entry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the 2027 holiday dates a closure calendar for every business?
No. The government announcement distinguishes public-sector and private-sector arrangements, and individual providers set their actual services. Reconfirm the transport, arrival and meals essential to your own trip.
Can I use the 2026 Hue or fireworks dates for a 2027 booking?
No. Check the programme year and the actual organiser announcement. Past dates, a proposed season and an on-sale performance are different levels of information.
Should I keep moving between cities during Tet?
Choose the route around confirmed transport and provider arrangements. Staying in one base through the central holiday period can simplify the trip, but the best decision depends on the actual services you book.
Does free public admission mean unrestricted access?
No. Check crowd management, entry arrangements, photography rules and the route home. A free event may still have controlled areas or changed vehicle access.
