Seychelles Itineraries: 5, 7, 10 and 14 Nights

Travel Tip: Write one line for every night, including arrival and departure dates, before comparing hotel offers. A cheap room on the wrong island can cost more once the extra transfers are added.

Choose a route before choosing hotels

The strongest Seychelles itinerary gives each overnight stop a purpose. Mahé combines the international gateway, Victoria, mountain scenery and a wide spread of beaches. Praslin makes sense for a slower mix of palm forest, beach days and nearby island excursions. La Digue rewards staying long enough to walk or cycle without watching the return-ferry clock. A journey that touches all three is not automatically better than a well-chosen two-island trip.

Count usable nights rather than the number printed on a holiday package. An overnight international flight, a late arrival, an early departure or a transfer day can each reduce sightseeing time. Write the date and island of every night first; put ferry or flight transfers between those nights; only then add outings. The plans below are editorial starting points, not fixed departures or guarantees that every activity will operate. They assume arrival and departure through Mahé and should be adjusted to your actual tickets.

Five nights: settle into Mahé or choose one second island

For a single-base version, use arrival day for the hotel transfer, a local meal and a short walk near your accommodation. On the first full day, explore Victoria and add a nearby garden or cultural visit. Keep a second day for the coast nearest your base, a third for a properly planned nature walk or guided excursion, and a fourth for a different part of Mahé. The final night remains easy to reach from the airport. This route suits travellers who dislike unpacking, families with very young children and anyone whose flight times remove the first or last day.

For the two-island version below, use one arrival night on Mahé, three nights on Praslin and one final night on Mahé: exactly five nights, with both Mahé nights already included. Give Praslin one forest day and one flexible beach day rather than squeezing La Digue into the same short block. Returning to Mahé on day five reduces dependence on a same-day sea connection before the international departure. It means a second Mahé check-in, so choose the single-base route if reducing moves matters more.

Seven nights: two bases and a considered La Digue day trip

The main seven-night plan uses two Mahé nights at the start, four on Praslin and one Mahé night at the end: three Mahé nights plus four Praslin nights in total. The eight calendar days below include arrival and departure, so they are not eight full sightseeing days. Morning and afternoon are flexible planning blocks, not promised transport times. Keep the busiest transfer away from your most important excursion.

La Digue can be a day trip on day six only if confirmed outward and return sailings allow a worthwhile visit. Choose a compact plan around La Passe and one main beach area. Do not combine a rushed inland ride, remote beaches and a tight last ferry. The alternative is to remain on Praslin and enjoy a slower coast or rest day. Adding a La Digue overnight would replace another night in this plan; it must not be added silently to a seven-night booking.

Ten nights: a balanced three-island journey

The ten-night route uses three Mahé nights at the start, three on Praslin, three on La Digue and one final Mahé night. That is exactly ten nights, with four on Mahé in total. Check whether the La Digue–Mahé journey involves Praslin and allow for every connection. The final Mahé night is already counted; it is not an eleventh night added to the allocation.

On Praslin, separate the palm forest from a major boat excursion so that a delay does not spoil both. Vallée de Mai has its own opening and last-entry times; its forest is an experience in its own right, not a quick photo between ferries. On La Digue, leave a full day with no reservation to cycle at a comfortable pace, stop for lunch and photograph the coast from dry land. On Mahé, choose one north or west-coast day and one mountain or cultural day rather than crossing the whole island repeatedly. Add nothing to a transfer day that you would regret missing.

Fourteen nights: add time, not just islands

The two-week example uses four initial Mahé nights, five Praslin nights, four La Digue nights and one final Mahé night: fourteen nights in total. An alternative is a longer Mahé base with fewer moves if accessible transport or a particular room matters. Build a rhythm of active day, easier day and optional outing. A slower route can include a guided trail, a Creole cooking experience and a conservation visit without becoming a timetable of excursions.

Use the extra nights to protect the experiences most important to you. A snorkelling trip may need a change of day; a cloud-covered viewpoint may be worth another attempt; a family may simply need a pool or reading day. An outer-island stay is a different transport and budget commitment and should not be slipped into an ordinary inner-island circuit as an assumed easy day trip. Confirm dedicated transfers, baggage and medical contingencies with its operator before moving other bookings around it.

Give each island a weather alternative

For a rough-sea day, replace an optional boat trip with something on the island where you are sleeping. On Praslin, a suitable forest visit may be more productive than chasing a distant beach, but heavy rain can still affect paths. On Mahé, cultural visits or an unhurried meal can replace an exposed walk; verify that the venue is actually open. On La Digue, shorten your loop and return before worsening weather instead of treating bicycle hire as a reason to press on.

The Seychelles Meteorological Authority climate guide helps explain seasonal wind patterns, while current forecasts and local advice decide the day itself. A sheltered-looking beach is not permission to swim. Consult the best-time guide for seasonal choices and the safety guide for water and trail decisions.

Book the route in the right order

Compare the whole journey: hotel to jetty or airport, check-in, crossing or flight, arrival transfer and the next room’s check-in time. The short domestic flight to Praslin and a ferry departure from Victoria are different products with different starting points. Carry documents, medicine and a change of essentials where you can access them; checked luggage may be unavailable during a crossing. Check the operator’s requirements rather than using a generic online connection estimate.

Start with flights and the night-by-night route, then hold the transport needed to make it work, select accommodation in the right base areas and reserve limited-capacity outings. Finish the official travel-authorisation application with complete accommodation confirmations. See Getting Around, Where to Stay and Visa & Entry. Separate bookings require particular care: a delayed ferry does not automatically protect an independently booked international flight or hotel reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I visit all three main islands in seven nights?

Yes, if the available connections work, but each move uses part of a day. Two overnight bases usually leave more room for beach conditions, rest and flight timing. Choose three only when the extra move serves a clear priority.

Should I spend the final night on Mahé?

It can reduce reliance on a same-day ferry or domestic connection before an international departure. Decide from your actual flight time, ticket protection, operator advice and tolerance for disruption; it is an itinerary recommendation rather than an entry rule.

Is La Digue better as a day trip or an overnight stay?

A day trip works for a compact visit within confirmed sailings. Overnight time allows a slower pace and less dependence on the afternoon return, but adds packing and hotel transfers.

Are the suggested day counts operator schedules?

No. They are route-planning examples. Confirm dated ferry or flight availability, attraction opening times and your own arrival and departure details before making non-refundable bookings.
