When you need help in Morocco, the most useful first step is choosing the right service. Immediate danger belongs with local emergency responders. A cancelled coach belongs first with its operator. A lost passport requires your own country’s consular procedure, and a medical insurance question belongs with the insurer’s assistance team. Saving those routes in advance prevents unnecessary calls when you are tired, distressed or without reliable internet.

This page is a practical contact guide, with official directories rather than a long list of unverified telephone numbers. It complements the health and safety guide and the entry requirements guide. Contact details were checked on 29 October 2026; reopen the linked official directory before travel because addresses, access arrangements and procedures can change.

Emergency services in Morocco

The FCDO’s current Morocco getting-help page lists the following local emergency numbers. They are short numbers for use in Morocco. Do not turn them into an international number by adding a country code. If you cannot connect, ask a nearby staffed business, your accommodation or a local person to help contact the appropriate service.

On a small screen, scroll the table horizontally to see every column.

Ambulance150Medical emergency, exact location and number of people affected
Fire150Fire or immediate hazard and the building or roadside location
Police190Immediate danger or incident needing police assistance
Gendarmerie177Incident location and the assistance needed

Start with the location: town, street, nearby landmark and the entrance where responders can reach you. State what happened and whether anyone is injured. Speak slowly and give a callback number if you have one. If you are in a riad or another building reached through pedestrian lanes, explain the vehicle-accessible meeting point and ask someone to meet responders there where it is safe to do so.

Stay available for follow-up instructions. A location pin can help a companion explain the place, but do not assume the person answering can receive one. Keep the address written in a form you can show a local helper. Follow the emergency dispatcher’s instructions and keep access clear for responders.

Choose the organisation that can resolve the problem

A single incident may require more than one contact, but each has a different role. Deal with immediate safety first, then organise the practical and financial follow-up. A hotel can help explain a location; it cannot replace emergency medical assessment. An embassy can explain consular options; it cannot act as an airline’s reservations desk.

Official consular routes for international visitors

Use the service for your citizenship and circumstances. Verify appointment and emergency procedures before travelling to an office; the nearest embassy building may not deliver the service you need. An honorary consulate may have a different range of services from a full consular section. Read what the official page says rather than inferring services from the title alone.

For another nationality, use your foreign ministry’s official overseas representation directory. Save a copy of the relevant contact page before departure, including how emergency assistance differs from routine opening hours. Avoid relying solely on a search-result snippet or an old photograph of a noticeboard.

If a passport is lost or stolen

Move to a secure place, establish what is missing and protect remaining documents and payment methods. Contact your consular service for its current replacement or emergency-document procedure. Ask whether a local police report is required and how the incident should be documented for your particular case. A copy of the passport helps identify the document but is not a replacement travel document.

Have your full name, date of birth, citizenship, passport details if known, current location and intended departure ready. Explain any urgent travel needs truthfully. Keep the booking reference and itinerary available, including transit countries: an emergency travel document may have conditions affecting the route you can use. Ask the airline and relevant authorities about acceptance before buying a replacement flight.

Also ask how to resolve any Moroccan entry-record or exit requirements associated with the missing passport. Receiving a replacement document and completing departure formalities are separate tasks. Keep receipts and confirmation messages, and tell the insurer if your policy may cover additional costs. Do not promise yourself a same-day departure until the responsible authorities confirm what is possible.

Transport disruption, accommodation and payments

For a cancelled flight, start with the airline or the agent that holds your booking. For a rail or coach problem, use the contact details on the official ticket or operator website. The getting around guide links to the principal operators; the airport guide helps separate an airport transfer issue from an airline issue.

Keep a clear incident record: scheduled journey, date and time, booking reference, what changed, who you contacted and what they offered. Save messages and receipts before applications log you out or notifications disappear. Ask about alternatives and applicable conditions before paying for an independent replacement, especially when you hope to claim reimbursement.

For a suspicious payment request, contact the property or provider through a previously verified channel. Avoid using a new number supplied in the same unexpected message. If a card or phone is stolen, use the issuer’s or device provider’s official protection process as well as any appropriate local report. The money guide explains why keeping a separate backup payment method is useful.

Prepare a small offline contact kit

Keep the accommodation’s name, full address, vehicle-accessible arrival point and verified contact, together with the insurer’s assistance details and booking references. Add the consular route for each traveller’s nationality, the emergency numbers above and one trusted personal contact. Store the information so it remains readable if mobile data fails or a phone battery runs low.

A data-only eSIM may provide internet without ordinary voice calling. Check how you would make a local emergency or support call before depending on it. Carry a charging cable and a suitable backup power source, and agree a meeting point if members of your party become separated. Avoid storing every essential detail on the same single device.

Travel Tip: Write your accommodation address and nearest vehicle-accessible meeting point on paper. It is useful when a phone is lost, offline or difficult to show during a stressful call.

Morocco useful contacts: frequently asked questions

Which number should I use for an ambulance?

The FCDO Morocco getting-help page lists 150 for ambulance and fire services. Explain your exact location and the type of emergency.

Should a US citizen seek routine help at the Rabat embassy?

The State Department directs US citizens needing assistance to the Consulate General in Casablanca. Follow its current appointment or emergency process.

Can a passport copy replace the lost original for travel?

No. It can help establish identity, but obtain the document and instructions required by your consular service and the relevant travel authorities.

Can an embassy refund a cancelled transport booking?

Contact the transport or booking provider first, then your insurer where appropriate. Consular support and commercial booking disputes have different roles.

Will a data-only eSIM cover ordinary telephone calls?

Do not assume it will. Check the product and have a practical way to make local calls or obtain help if internet access is unavailable.
