Dubai Airports and Transfers: DXB, DWC and Your Arrival

Check the airport code and terminal before choosing a Dubai transfer. Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC) are different airports, and the practical route to your hotel depends on the actual arrival point. A flight described simply as “Dubai” is not enough information for a reliable pickup or public-transport plan.
This guide covers the journey into your accommodation and the return for departure. For daily travel once you are settled, use Getting Around Dubai.
Confirm the airport, terminal and hotel entrance
Read the flight booking and airline’s current information, then save the airport code, terminal and flight number. For a prebooked vehicle, supply all three alongside the correct passenger and luggage count. A terminal or schedule change can affect the agreed meeting point, so check how the provider handles updates and flight delays.
Save your hotel’s full name, address and actual reception entrance offline. Similar property names, large developments and multiple entrances can cause unnecessary delay. The best transfer is the one that reaches your accommodation with the luggage and assistance you need, not necessarily the option with the shortest advertised station-to-station time.
Choose the route that matches your terminal

| Arrival point | Public-transport position | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|
| DXB Terminal 1 | Direct access to a Red Line Metro station | Check your onward line, service hours and the walk from destination station to hotel. |
| DXB Terminal 3 | Direct access to a Red Line Metro station | Allow for immigration, baggage and the terminal approach to the station. |
| DXB Terminal 2 | No directly connected terminal Metro station | Use an appropriate road/bus connection rather than expecting the T1/T3 arrangement. |
| DWC | No direct terminal Metro station | Dubai Airports lists onward connections through Ibn Battuta or Expo 2020 by bus/taxi; verify the actual service. |
Do not plan around the Metro map alone. A workable connection also needs the correct direction, enough time for any interchange and a suitable final route from the station. Check the RTA journey planner for your actual day and time.
Use the Metro when the whole journey works
Dubai Airports lists general Red Line operating hours at DXB as 05:00–midnight Monday to Thursday, 05:00–01:00 the next day on Friday, 05:00–midnight Saturday and 08:00–midnight Sunday. These were checked on 2 November 2026. Holidays and events can change operations; the last useful train for your direction may be earlier than the network closing time.
Allow time after landing for immigration, baggage collection and finding the station. Check current luggage conditions and keep the route manageable if you are tired, travelling with children or carrying bulky bags. Obtain the appropriate individual nol product and sufficient balance. A hotel described as “near Metro” still needs a check of the actual entrance-to-entrance walk.
Compare taxis and prebooked road transfers
Use the airport’s signed official taxi arrangement or a clearly identified prebooked provider. For a transfer quote, check whether the total includes the correct airport, terminal collection, waiting allowance, luggage capacity, tolls and any parking or additional charges. A photograph of a vehicle is not proof of the exact car or accessible equipment supplied.
For families, arrange the necessary child restraint with the provider before travel. For wheelchair users, confirm the boarding method, dimensions, securement and whether travel is possible while seated in the chair. Have a clear contact method if the driver is not at the agreed meeting point, and retain the booking details and provider information.
Plan late arrivals and airport changes carefully
If the flight arrives outside a workable public-transport itinerary, decide on the road alternative before departure. Share the late arrival with the hotel and check its reception arrangements. An inexpensive room is poor value if an unplanned late-night journey or closed reception makes it unusable.
A connection between DXB and DWC is not an airside walk between terminals. Check immigration eligibility, baggage collection, landside transport, traffic allowance and the next airline’s check-in deadline. Do not book a tight self-transfer on the assumption that the airports are interchangeable. Keep an interruption plan for flight changes and consult the airline and current travel advice before setting out.
Prepare the return journey and assistance
Work backwards from your airline’s required airport arrival time and check-in cutoff. Add the hotel-to-airport transfer, a realistic traffic margin and any time needed to collect luggage. Confirm the terminal again; the arrival terminal from an earlier trip is not a reliable departure instruction.
Request airport or airline assistance through the appropriate channel in advance. Explain your actual needs rather than using only a broad “accessible” label. Confirm whether the assistance covers the check-in area, security, terminal movement and boarding, and arrange the separate hotel transfer accordingly. Read Dubai accessibility planning for questions to ask before booking.
Travel Tip
Keep a single arrival note containing the flight number, airport code, terminal, hotel entrance, transfer booking and a road alternative. Save it offline and share it with everyone travelling.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Dubai airport has a Metro station?
DXB Terminals 1 and 3 have directly connected Red Line stations. Do not assume the same for DXB Terminal 2 or DWC.
Can I rely on the Metro after a late flight?
Check the actual last usable journey after allowing for immigration and baggage. General network hours alone do not establish a connection for your hotel.
Are DXB and DWC the same airport?
No. They require a landside transfer when changing airports, with immigration, baggage and airline deadlines considered separately.
Does an airport transfer quote include every charge?
Only the provider’s written terms establish that. Check the airport/terminal, waiting, luggage, tolls, parking and any other additions before paying.
