Cairo Festivals & Events: Film, Performances & Planning
An event can give a Cairo trip a strong focus, but its date, venue and ticket conditions should drive the plan. Use the official programme for the edition you are attending. An organisation’s older highlights or accreditation page are not proof that public seats are available for a particular screening.
Cairo International Film Festival: 11–20 November 2026
The official Cairo International Film Festival announces its 47th edition for 11–20 November 2026. For an actual visit, check the current screening programme, venue and public-ticket arrangements. Accreditation and a public cinema ticket serve different purposes.
Choose a screening by language, subtitle information and travel distance as well as the film. Keep time before the advertised start for entry and seat allocation. Do not use an older edition’s winners or statistics as this year’s programme. The date above is an event announcement, not a guarantee that every screening is open or available.
Concerts and Performances: Follow the Date-Specific Calendar
The Cairo Opera website is a starting point for performances, but check the individual theatre and city. The organisation’s programme extends beyond one Gezira venue. Read the event details and the current booking conditions rather than treating an old monthly calendar as a future schedule.
A central hotel may help with a Gezira event, while a different venue may favour another base. Check the address before reserving dinner and allow for the exit crowd when arranging the return. Performances and restaurant evenings are compared in Nightlife.

| Check | Why it matters | Practical response |
|---|---|---|
| Edition and date | Old programmes remain searchable | Use the current organiser listing. |
| Exact venue | One organiser can use several theatres/cities | Map the entrance, not only the organisation name. |
| Public access | Accreditation is not universal admission | Confirm the ticket type and any ID rules. |
| Language / age | Suitability differs between programmes | Read subtitles, duration and age information. |
| Return journey | End times and traffic can shift | Choose a reachable meeting point and a backup. |
Religious Holidays and the City’s Daily Rhythm
Ramadan, Eid and public holidays can alter opening patterns, dinner demand and journeys. Religious dates can depend on the official announcement; check the dates for your travel year and the venues’ own schedules. Do not assume all museums, cafés or shops follow one universal holiday timetable.
An evening atmosphere is not permission to photograph a private celebration or worship without consent. If an event involves a neighbourhood rather than a controlled venue, respect residents’ access and avoid obstructing doorways or streets for a picture.
Fit an Event into the Cairo Route
On an event day, keep the preceding visit near the venue or leave a generous transfer break. A major Giza visit, a full GEM session and an evening performance can be too much for one day even when each ticket is available. Choose which experience deserves your attention.
Book accommodation only after checking cancellation terms and the announced venue. A festival date can change the usefulness of a base; it does not automatically justify a non-refundable room across the city. No unannounced future festival dates are presented here.
