Getting to Portugal

Getting to Portugal, Portugal Travel Guide and Tourist Information

How to get there is simple. You can travel by air, sea or car. It all depends on where you live. There are no direct sea ferries to Portugal, but there are car ferries from Spain to Algarve every 40 minutes, Monday through Saturday. There is also service on Sunday, but the hours of operation change slightly. The cheapest way to travel is by bus. Buses operate regularly, but you have to go to Spain in order to get to Portugal.

Eurolines and Busabout offer passes to Madrid and they are associated with three Portuguese bus companies that can take you to your Portuguese destination. Eurolines offers service to Spain twice a week from other European countries like Germany and Belgium. If you are traveling from France or the UK bus service is more frequent especially during the summer months. The Train is still popular especially from France and the UK, but some tourist like to fly into Lisbon and then rent a car to reach their final destination. Airline service into Lisbon is frequent. There are plenty of airline companies that offer flights seven days a week.
