New York Health Safety & Emergency Services, New York City Travel Guide and Tourist Information
It’s safe to say that the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building are two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. They are famous markers that identify the city, but they are just a taste of what the city offers in terms of historic value and educational features. Although the city has been classified unsafe and expensive when compared to other American cities, there are many restaurants and shops that are considered inexpensive by anyone’s standards and the crime rate has dropped substantially over the years.
Native New Yorker’s are friendly and extremely helpful. The taxi system is a reliable way to see the city, but can be expensive. A walk through Central Park during the day is safe and worth the adventure. Central Park is a haven for runners, bikers, walkers and tourists. The Central Park Zoo is located in the southeastern corner of the park. Other sections of the park are filled with wonderful rock formations, plant life, green grass and water features. The famous Tavern on the Green known world-wide for its menu and ambience is located on the westside of the park.
