Travel Costs & Money

Madrid uses the euro. Compare your room against your actual dates first; an event weekend can change the whole budget. Add meals, admissions and transport based on the itinerary you want, rather than a city-wide “daily price” that hides different travel styles.

For a simple arithmetic example, a traveller who allocates €30 for food, €10 for travel and €20 for visits has planned €60 per day before accommodation. These are chosen example allowances, not verified market prices or quoted ticket costs. Replace them with your own menus, fares and bookings; a free-walking day and a museum-heavy day will differ.

Visa & Entry

Madrid has no separate city-entry visa. Spain’s requirements depend on nationality, travel document and purpose. For relevant third-country visitors, the Schengen short-stay framework is generally up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area, not a fresh allowance on entering Madrid. If a phone or card is lost, contact the provider promptly using the official channel rather than a number offered by a stranger.

For a late evening, decide how you will return before going out and keep enough charge for the journey. Use an official taxi rank or the pickup instructions in your booked service. Shortcuts through an unfamiliar area are rarely worth the small saving when you are tired.

Start with the route from the street to the room, not a general “accessible” badge. Request the hotel’s entrance steps, lift and doorway dimensions, turning space, shower layout and the exact room offered. Confirm whether a taxi can stop close to the entrance and whether the pavement approach is practical for you.

For public transport, check the specific station entrance, interchange, lift status and exit near the destination. A lift at one end does not guarantee a step-free trip.
