Italy has always had more than its share of violence. The Mafia is still a powerful group in Italy and pickpockets and scam artist still hang around tourist destinations and hotels. So, is Italy safe? Well the experts say Italy is safe. You can walk down the streets of any Italian city at 2am and be safe even though you might not feel safe. Petty crime is still an issue and homes are vandalized all the time, but no one kills someone over three or four dollars in Italy. The Gypsies can be annoying and hard to get rid of, but they are not violent. You may have to scream to chase them away, but a little screaming in Italy is common.
