Barcelona’s rich history makes it a fantastic city for sightseeing.
The Museu Arqueologic is next to the great steps of Mont Juic. The exhibits contain artifacts from Greek, Roman, Iberian and Carthaginian eras.
There is a great collection of maps, photographs and other educational material.
The Parc de la Cuitadella was built in Old Town in the 1700s. It was a fortress that was turned into a park in the 19th century. The park is filled with beautiful gardens, a cascade built by Josep Fontsere and Gaudi and a wonderful Triumphal arch. The zoo and the Museu de Zoologia are also located in the park. Barcelona also has the largest aquarium in Europe. L’Aquarium is located in Old Town and it is filled with aquatic species from the Mediterranean. There’s even an underground tunnel, so you can watch the sharks and other water life swim above you.
Festivals in Barcelona
Sónar - Music festival that runs three days and nights, in Barcelona. Generally it start last week of the June.
Festes de la Mercè - Main festival in Barcelona,it runs about the 24th of September. Attractions: Firework displays, and live music, with national drink of Catalonia.
Festes de Gràcia - Catalonian celebration about 15th of August. Streets are decorated by the neighbours, live music, food , and the parties all night.
Revetlla de Sant Joan - Midsummer solstice celebration in 23rd June
Fira de Santa Llúcia - (commemorate Sta Llúcia) Between December 2-3, to December 23rd.
Corpus - Corpus Christi day.
Sant Jordi - like Valentine's Day. - April, 23.
