The Weather in Spain and When to Go Spain - Photos4Travel

The Weather

The Mediterranean coast gets more rain than Madrid, and Alicante has the warmest water temperatures during the summer. Barcelona can be very humid, but Andalucia has sunny days and mild nights all winter long. Madrid can freeze in the winter and is scorching hot in the summer. The weather in Seville can be too much to bear in the summer months, but Valladolid and Zaragoza are dry and mild most of the time. The weather in the Pyrenees and in Cordillera Cantábrica is controlled by the cold airstreams from the north and northwest.

When to Go

When to go in Spain depends what you plan to do once you get there. Spain is filled with weather surprises so anytime may not be a good time to visit certain areas of the country. There’s decent weather in some parts of the country all year so choosing when to go depends on what you want to see and do. Winter is generally mild in the south and southeast. Most people want to visit the northeast to get away from the heat during the summer months. If you visit Granada in February expect t-shirt weather, but planning a hike through the Pico de Europa Mountains in July can be a mighty cold experience. The locals say the best months to visit are May and June as well as September, but October and April are good months if you’re planning to stay in the south.
