Food and lodging are well above average, due to an overvalued currency and very active black market that the locals use to exchange money for shopping excursions to Mauritius, where the prices are lower. The Seychelles is Africa’s wealthiest nation and Tourism accounts for 70% of its revenue. Almost all of the tourist attractions charged a fee, even National Parks like, Vallee de Mai, and the Botanical Gardens charged an entrance fee. The pace and quality of service can be an issue in certain establishments, which does frustrate some tourists.
