It’s easy to let Vienna’s size fool you. The whole country of Austria is the same size as the US state, South Carolina. Vienna has 1.6 million residents and is in the same time zone as Paris, which means it’s one hour ahead of London. Vienna goes on Daylight savings time every year which starts in March and ends the last Sunday in October. The Euro is the currency used in Austria. Shops are open 5 days a week from 9 to 6:30 ,although some shops stay open till 9 PM on Thursdays and Fridays and on Saturday they are open from 9 to 6. The shops celebrate 13 holidays a year and most of them fall between October through January.

Vienna is filled with museums and most of them can be seen on foot because the main area of the old city is closed to traffic. Public transportation is reliable, safe, cheap and clean. Tickets are available for one trip or you can buy a ticket for three days. German is spoken in a local dialect called Wienerisch, but most of the residents speak English. Vienna is very tourist friendly. The residents are always willing to help with information, as well as directions.
