The Weather in Russia

If a survey was taken most people would say that early summer and autumn are the best times to visit Russia. By the end of May most of the snow has disappeared and the weather is pleasant although some areas like Siberia are still covered in a white winter blanket. Visitors love autumn because the fall colors are so vivid. September and early October are excellent times to enjoy most cities as well as the villages and countryside.

The summer months of July and August are hot, plus they are the main holiday months for Russians so getting reservations in some cities can be a challenge. July and August are the wettest months in European Russia. In the Far Eastern Region of the country disease carrying ticks, mosquitoes, and other insects are pests to reckon with during June and July. By September the bugs are gone and the weather is perfect so that's when most tourists travel through the country. The first snow arrives in late October and Spring is still slush and mud no matter where you go. In most areas it’s still cold until early June.
