Is Russia Safe?

A lot of press reports describe the modern day cities of Russia like Chicago was described in the 1930s. Some reports say criminals gun down innocent people in the streets, but that is not an accurate picture of the crime scene in Russian cities. Is Russia safe for tourists? The answer is absolutely, but there are aggressive drunks as well as tricksters, pickpockets, and the occasional gang of gypsy children begging for money and they can make the trip uncomfortable.

Take the necessary precautions when visiting any Russian city. That’s the best defense against petty theft because local police are not proficient in solving petty crimes. Use common sense and stay away from places that offer sex, booze, and all night fun. Most tourists never see any crime, but if someone is looking for trouble it can be found one night on the town or one afternoon of thoughtless exposure.
