Peru’s climate changes by region. The weather on the coast is damp and cloudy during the winter, which starts in June and ends in September. The average temperature is usually in the mid 60s, and summer temperatures can reach the high 90s. Lima, which is the capital, enjoys warm summers and light rain during the winter months. Lima can get hot in the summer with temperatures reaching the mid 90s, but in winter the average temperature is around 60 degrees. In the highland area the sun shines all year, but at night the temperature can dip into the low 40s. The Amazon Jungle has a tropical climate, and the rainy season starts in December and lasts through April.
