Morocco: The Land of Sultans, Camels and Sand

History tells us Morocco has been inhabited for more than three thousand years. The Phoenicians arrive around 800 BC and the Romans settled in parts of Morocco during the fourth century, but the most influential visitors that changed the face of the intriguing country were the soldiers of Islam that overwhelmed the Berber tribes, and converted the country to Islam in the 7th century.

France seized power in 1912 and stay in power until the 1950s. Today Morocco has over 34 million residents, and it attracts millions of visitors each year; they come from all over the world to experience life in one of Morocco’s spellbinding cities. Tangiers, Casablanca, Marrakesh and Fez offer visitors winding streets, and enough surprises to fill several visits. The Atlas Mountains offer hikers great backpacking trails, and the beaches along the coast bring back visions of the golden years when mystery and intrigue filled Morocco with Hollywood icons and jet setting socialites. You’re never too old to take a camel ride into the white sands of the Sahara and watch the orange sun set over a pure white ocean of tiny sand crystals.

About Morocco Today

An escape to Morocco is a Technicolor opportunity to visit a part of Africa where the certainties of other cultures disappear in the allure of a modern country with one foot in the past. The small fishing villages and historic ports are intertwined along the Atlantic coast, and collide with the urban action that Casablanca provides. The windswept white sand beaches in the south call sun worshippers from around the world; the beauty of nature and humanity join to express the richness of multiple cultures and customs.
