The city of Las Vegas sits in a basin surrounded by mountains, so the area around the city is mostly desert vegetation inhabited by desert wildlife. The city now has an area of 131.3 square miles and only 0.1 of that area is water.

The weather in Vegas is predictable. June through September it’s hot and dry. Temperatures reach well over 100 degrees during the day and the nighttime lows range from the low 70s to the low 80s. Vegas can flash flood without warning, but it only rains 4.5 inches a year. Winter temperatures range from the 60s during the day to the 40s at night. The temperature may drop into the low 30s in January or February, but snow is rare.
