Germany Money; Currency and Exchange Rates
The official currency in Germany is the Euro, but stay away from airport exchange merchants and hotels if you need to exchange money. A bank will give you a better rate and the exchange fee will be less. The goods and services tax is 19% on regular goods and 7% on books and food.
Euro (EUR; symbol €) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of €500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of €2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents.
