Cost of Living in Chile

The Cost of Living in Chile and Is Chile Expensive?

Is Chile Expensive?

By South American standards Chile is not cheap, but it is less expensive than Europe or the United States. Prices may double during the summer months, but if you travel before or after peak season you’ll find bargains on flights, hotels and restaurants. If you’re on a budget it will cost you at least $30 a day to travel around Chile, which includes the cost of staying in a hostel and eating in the markets.

Lunch seems to be a very affordable meal even in expensive restaurants. In order to travel first class in Chile you’ll need at least $70 a day and if you spend over $100 a day you can experience all the luxury Chile has to offer. Tipping is customary in Chile. Ten percent is the accepted amount in restaurants. Taxi drivers don’t expect tips, but you can round up the fare if you want.
