Almost everyone agrees that the weather in Austria can be summed up in a few words like "long winters," "short summers," and a spring filled with frequent avalanches. All of those facts don't deter people from coming to Austria to experience hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and lake swimming. The season dictates where to go and what to do.

The winter is cold and wet, so it's perfect for a winter break filled with skiing, snowmobiling, and cross-country adventures. There are festivals throughout the year, but the majority of the musical festivals take place in May, June, and July as well as August and September. The cities are less crowded in the winter except for the cities that are known for their ski resort accommodations. The tourist season is July and August.
