The subway system in the city is the busiest system in the world. In 1480 it became the capital of the Russian Empire. Moscow has been invaded several times over the years by several different countries and in 1654 half the population of the city was killed by the plague. Today, Moscow is a thriving city filled with Western style retail shops, modern architecture and trendy restaurants and clubs.

The city is in a constant state of change and continues to excite the locals, as well as visitors, with its unique personality and unusual ambience.
