The Cathedral of Dormition is risen at the site of the first stone cathedral built in Moscow by Ivan Kalita in XIVth century. Gigantic building for its time, the cathedral of Dormition was built into 1475-1479 by the Italian architect Aristotle Fioravanti. During four centuries Dormition remained the main cathedral of Russia. It is here that were held crownings of tsars and emperors.
