The Vaughan cardinal, decided in 1894 the construction of a cathedral on the ground of an old jail. The Westminster Cathedral is the main catholic church of England, built in the neo-Byzantine style. If the vastness surprises from outside (the bell-tower is 83 m high, and the cathedral 110 m length), it surprises even inside. The nave, broadest of England, accomodates 1200 sitted people. |
