Honolulu, the city on the island of Oahu, is the capital of the state. The state has a population of about 1,265,000 people. Hawaii is known for perfect temperatures, warm island breezes and almost non-stop sunshine. Hawaii attracts visitors from all over the world and the tourist industry plays a vital role in the economic health of the state. Agriculture and farming also play a part in the state’s wealth. Pineapple, coconut, sugar, coffee, macadamia nuts, fruit and other products like lettuce, ginger and onions still contribute to the financial stability of the islands.
Some of the attractions that entice tourist are: Wiamea Canyon on Kauai, which is 1 mile wide and 10 miles long and the north side of Molokai has the tallest sea cliffs in the world. The ship trapped in the waters around Shipwreck Beach on Lanai is a big attraction. The volcanic crater known as Haleakala on Maui is the size of New York’s Manhattan Island always draws a crowd. Kileaua is the most active volcano in world and is located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the big island. It's always filled with tourists, as well as residents.
There’s nothing better than a Hawaiian sunset. The fantastic orange, red, blue and pink hues evoke a spiritual high in some visitors as the sun blends graciously with the horizon. Hawaii is actually 20 degrees north of the equator and 155 degrees west of the Prime Meridian, which seems to be the perfect spot for these incredible sunsets that occur between 5:45 to 7:30 PM depending on the season.
The beauty of Hawaii can’t be expressed adequately in words, it can only be experienced. It is one of those magical places on earth where dreams are lived and prayers are answered. Hawaii brings out the best in people for it is an expression of the beauty, elegance and grace that’s found within all of us.
