The monumental building of the Parliament, drawn by Imre Steindl, required 20 years of work and was completed in 1902. It is said that the architect sought to combine " a national architecture with national and personal characteristics ". The Parliament (Országház) is composed of 691 rooms and 20 km staircases, and was inspired partly by the London Parliament.
